Welcome

About Me

I'm Nilima Hakim Mow. I am a Ph.D. student in Linguistics at George Mason University (Fairfax, VA, USA).

I have obtained my BA and MA degrees in Linguistics from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. I did a double MA in Linguistics & TESOL from Ball State University, Indiana.

Currently, I am working as a Graduate Research Assistant for the GMU Language Documentation Lab under the direction of Dr. Sylvia Schreiner.

My research focuses on language documentation and revitalization, sociolinguistics, second language acquisition, and multilingualism. I am also interested in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages).

Currently, I am working on Akuzipik (Yupik in English) an endangered Indigenous language spoken in St. Lawrence Island, Alaska. I am working with the community to help document and revitalize their endangered language. This work goes beyond research for me. It's about connecting with communities, understanding their stories, and supporting the survival of a language deeply tied to identity and heritage.

I am also part of a research team documenting Hawrami, an endangered Kurdish variety spoken in the Hawraman region of Iran, Iraq, and some parts of Turkey.
